The Jicarilla Apache basket weaving technique is practiced by few Apache artisans and baskets shown here are becoming a scarce and valuable work of art. Jicarilla women made baskets for gathering berries, for carrying prepared foods and depending on the size for carrying kindling wood. Some baskets are made specifically for curing ceremonies.
A Jicarilla basket is made of sumac and willow. The final row on these baskets were completed in one day (as is the tradition) to ensure the owner is blessed with a long and prosperous life.
Additionally, these baskets carry a special prayer and therefore spiritual in nature. Basket shown here have had no other owner.
Na'ee chi ee will send you certificates of authenticity from the artist and care instructions. Special packaging promise the safe arrival of your purchase.
